The Canmore and surrounding area real estate market is booming, attracting people from around the world eager to experience the allure of the Canadian Rockies. It’s not just a destination—it’s a place where many choose to put down roots. In a long-standing industry like real estate photography and videography, standing out can be challenging, and for this project, we set out to create visuals that would make Cory's property shine. Our aim was to capture not only the property’s layout and features but also the ambiance and lifestyle it offers.

For this project, we partnered with Cory Hand, a local Real Estate Agent, to photograph his listing in Dead Man’s Flats. The goal was to produce high-quality images that would effectively showcase the property’s best features and attract prospective buyers. Using a combination of professional techniques—such as careful lighting, strategic composition, and post-production enhancement—we created a series of striking images that elevated the listing and generated more inquiries.

What We Did

  • Property Assessment and Composition Planning: Evaluated the home’s layout to select angles that would highlight its standout features and enhance the flow of each room.

  • Wide-Angle Shots with Stability: Used a wide-angle lens with a tripod to capture expansive rooms and open spaces, ensuring level, distortion-free images.

  • Natural Lighting Optimization: Scheduled the shoot in the afternoon to utilize natural light streaming through the windows, creating a warm and inviting ambiance.

  • Bracketing for Interior and Exterior Balance: Employed bracketing techniques to capture balanced exposures of both interior spaces and outdoor views, blending images in post-production for optimal detail retention.

  • HDR Processing: Used HDR (High Dynamic Range) processing to merge bracketed shots, capturing both the mountain views outside and the details within the unit.

  • Post-Production Enhancement: Adjusted brightness, contrast, and white balance to ensure true-to-life colors and enhance the natural beauty of each space.

Preparation for the shoot began with assessing the home’s layout and determining which angles would best highlight its unique features. We used a wide-angle lens to capture expansive rooms and open spaces from various vantage points, stabilized with a tripod to ensure distortion-free, level images, especially crucial for wide-angle shots of large living areas.

The shoot was scheduled for the afternoon to take advantage of natural sunlight streaming through the windows, adding warmth and a welcoming feel to the indoor scenes. For shots that included window views, we used a technique called bracketing—capturing multiple exposures at different light levels and merging them through HDR processing. This allowed us to showcase both the breathtaking mountain views outside and the well-lit interior of the unit.

In post-production, subtle enhancements were applied to bring out the best in each image. Adjustments to brightness, contrast, and white balance were made to ensure colours appeared true-to-life and to emphasize the property’s natural beauty. The end result was a polished, high-quality series of images that highlighted the property’s key features, making it stand out in a competitive market.

This project exemplifies how professional techniques and attention to detail can significantly impact the success of a listing. Through careful planning, lighting mastery, effective composition, and expert post-production, we captured the essence of the unit and presented it in its most appealing light. The final images not only drew more interest but also played a critical role in enhancing the property's marketability and speeding up its sale.
